ABOUT ME

Terry Bernardo is running for New York State Senate to bring practical leadership, real-world experience, and common sense back to Albany.
A longtime resident of the 51st Senate District, Terry spent nearly two decades building and running Skate Time 209, a roller skating rink and skate park that became a local family favorite. She also owned and operated Pilates at the Bungalow, a wellness studio that reflected her belief in strength, discipline, and caring for the community. As a small business owner, Terry balanced budgets, hired locally, and learned firsthand how taxes and regulations impact families and small businesses. She understands what it takes to run a business, manage expenses, and make responsible decisions when every dollar matters.
Today, Terry serves as a Sullivan County Legislator, elected in 2023, and as a Data Officer for Orange County. In these roles, she has spent years modernizing outdated systems and improving how government operates, focusing on clarity, efficiency, and transparency.
Terry also brings deep experience in public service. From 2009 to 2012, she served in the Ulster County Legislature, where she made history as the first woman elected Chair. During her tenure, she led with integrity, asked hard questions, and stayed focused on fiscal responsibility and accountability. Her approach has always been the same: represent taxpayers, demand efficiency, and make government work better for the people it serves.
Terry believes New York can succeed when families, farmers, and local businesses are allowed to thrive. She is focused on strengthening the local economy, lowering taxes, and supporting small businesses, restoring public safety, and fixing a state government that has grown too complicated and disconnected from everyday life.
Her campaign is built on a simple truth: when government works, communities grow stronger. And when it does not, Terry knows how to fix it. She is running to deliver practical solutions, responsible leadership, and a brighter future for District 51.
